Le Mummie Vincenti, 1999, Italy, colours, 8’55” ed. 1+ 1ap, Master: VHS, PAL; performance: Milano

The Winning Mummies are people who believe they are socially arrived and successful, but whose lives are completely closed and suffocated by cages of duty, conventions, hypocrisy and stress. The result is that deep down these people are like mummies, but they don’t realize it. Sometimes, we are all mummies.  In the performance, the ‘invisible’ conditionings in which we are immersed are shown in a ‘visible’ and corporal way, as the artist is wearing two large white boxes as if they were clothes, which prevent and obstruct her movement.

Thanks to Francesco Leprino for filming and accompanying the editing.
